You are missing the point.

The Germans know that there are going to be changes to the culture on both sides. The problem is that the Muslim immigrants are refusing to "melt" into the German culture. If the German culture continues to bend towards the Muslim culture; the traditional German culture will seize to exist.

The U.S. is less of a melting pot than you think. How do you think we have come to loose so many freedoms. As the traditional U.S. culture is "diluted" you begin to see the problems (failed ideas) from other cultures brought here.

The more people misunderstand the founding of this country, the worse it gets.

Germany is seeing the same problems, only at a much more accelerated rate.

Merkel and Seehofer see a failure because they expected each culture to totally retain its unique identity. That would be nearly impossible as they now see. Once a physical border is crossed, the culture changes a little on the receiving side for both parties. It's not "multikulti" but more of a blending of the cultures into new hybrid cultures. The immigrants who come here may not exhibit that blend so much, but their offspring often do. People characterize the USA as a "melting pot" for this very reason.
