Greg:

I agree with you. The entire idea that the Nobel Peace Prize has anything to do with peace is a joke. I also read about Wilson and Roosevelt. Much of what was once considered lunacy or conspiracy is not becoming truth. Who would have believed 1 year ago that GM would be 60% government owned...?

I remember when you used to think the lyric was, "What have I done to the circus?" Funny that that title actually fits too!

I first read about the prize on a FB post. I thought it was a joke, seriously. The (I think it was CNN?) article plus reader comments was pretty enlightening.

So, was American Idol nominated for bringing so many television viewers together?

Rob: I don't think you are asking the correct question. A better question would be what has he done?

I don't think there is a problem with Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The surrounding circumstances are what make people question what is going on. Most people are awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for something they have accomplished. So I ask, "What has Obama accomplished with respect to world peace?"

Is there ANY thing that he has done right? Do you in all honesty think that the president or Democrats in general sit in their lairs twirling their mustaches while concocting diabolical plans to destroy the country or do you believe that elected officials (for the most part) have good intentions and want the best interests of the country at heart, albeit with conflicting ideologies. While I didn't particularly care for the Bush administration (and lost some close friends in Iraq as a result of foreign policy), I don't believe he was an idiot, I don't believe he set out to destroy the economy by massive deregulation of derivatives market, and I don't believe he set out to widen the gap between the rich and the poor by giving tax breaks for the wealthy. I believe that the Bush administration acted in good faith to best serve the country based on their school of thought and information they had at the time. Its unfortunate that in this day and age we still have an "us versus them" attitude when we should be working together to face the big challenges before us. Most of the time we won't see eye to eye on things, but is it really the case that we can't agree on any single issue? Has the president done such a terrible thing in being awarded the Nobel peace prize? Have we gotten to the point when a good thing is bad, a bad thing is worse, and international recognition is to be chastised? We bash the man for wanting to reverse his predecessor's policies and we bash him again for deciding to stick with them. I know Shakespeare once wrote "uneasy lies the head that wears the crown," so I ask again, has he done ANY thing right?

I think it was Fox News that said the Nobel prize is being used as a slap to the face of George W. Bush. Carter in 2002, Gore in 2007, and now Obama in 2009. It seems the actual consensus is that Obama hasn't done anything yet. It was even pointed out that the deadline for nominations was Feb. 1, 2 weeks after he took office! It was not made clear who nominated him. Maybe..... HIMSELF?!?! Hey pal, don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.
